Synopsis[]

DISCLAIMER: Just a heads up, this is the scariest episode of any cartoon that's ever been created, so … yeah. We're not legally allowed to tell you what happens in this episode, you just need to watch it (if you do decide to do that, which you shouldn't).

Plot[]

The episode starts with the Smiling Friend waiting at Mr. Boss' wedding reception. An inebriated Charlie approached the guys and introduces them to Jombo, who he thinks can be the fifth Smiling Friend due to his humour. Charlie tries to demonstrate a knife trick that Jombo showed him, but his wild knife-flaying makes Pim uncomfortable. They're interrupted by the start of the wedding. The Priest introduces the wife-to-be, Brittney, who turns out to be a malformed demon woman. Her and the boss recite their wedding vows, with Brittney saying she'll help him reform his company in hers, before trying to give him a blowj*b at the wedding podium after the priest announces their marriage.

The next day, the office is already decorated with obnoxiously positive decorum and black roses. Nursing a hangover, Charlie rocks up to work and both him and Pim are called to see Mr. Boss. In his office, Mr. Boss is entranced by Brittney, and she gets him to say that the company is being renamed to Brittney's Beautiful Demonic Flowers. He also explains that Glep is busy tending to Brittney's black rose garden (despite him hating gardening), and that Charlie and Pim's final jobs as Smiling Friends is to make Brittney smile. The two put in a concerned effort, but Brittney accepts it and the two fly off to "celebrate their honeymoon." Now alone, Charlie and Pim comment that they need to do something about the situation, with Allan walking in to join them. Sick of doing errands for the newlyweds, he agrees to help out, though the trio decide to head to Charlie's place because of the eyeball that's been observing them.

At Charlie's place, Charlie explains he can't find anything online to suggest Brittney is evil. Allan comments on the strange mannequin in the room, with Charlie explaining he's looking after it whilst his uncle is in the hospital. Searching through a book of demonology, they discover that Brittney is none other than a Filia Diabulus - a daughter of Satan - who manifests every 100 years to kill influential leaders and grant their belongings to her father. The group agree that having their company being owned by the literal devil itself is a bad idea, but when they try to find out how to kill her the page explaining how is missing. Charlie then searches up how to kill her, stumbling onto Daniel the Demonslayer's YouTube Channel. Skipping through Daniel's Dollar Shave Club sponsorship, they get to the end of the video and find out that the only way to kill her is to stab her through the heart on a full moon. Realizing they have Jombo's knife, and that tonight just so happens to be a full moon, they decide to act fast, but not before Allan gets jumpscared by the mannequin.

Arriving at Brittney's castle, Allan says he has an appointment with Dr. Monster, refuses to elaborate who that is, and leaves. Reaching the lovers' bedroom, Charlie wusses out and says he can't do it because of his headache, so Pim takes Jombo's knife and hesitantly stabs Brittney. However, it turns out that Jombo's knife was gag knife with a fake, retractable blade, with Charlie commenting how Jombo fled for New Jersey and deleted all his contact information, effectively scamming him out of $600. Brittney wakes up and bursts into tears when Pim and Charlie explained they were there to kill her. The two ask her if she wasn't as malicious as they thought she was, but she says that they were correct in their assumptions; they just "didn't have to be so nasty about it." Jumping out of the window, Brittney is impaled by her own roses, with Glep walking away in frustration.

Despite killing Brittney, Pim notes that Mr. Boss isn't waking up, with him revealing the only way to fully free someone was "a true love's kiss." Encouraged to do it, Charlie approaches Mr. Boss to kiss him, only to be jumpscared by him. Mr. Boss explains it's a joke. Angry at being scared due to his heart condition, Charlie yells at the two of them, though Mr. Boss sincerely thanks the two for freeing him. He explains that the last thing he remembers was having his soul sucked out of his asshole, and that their wedding contract now states that he now owns 1/4 of hell. Pulling in his employees, a naked Mr. Boss tells the Smiling Friends that he's done chasing younger women and that his true love is his work, before singing a song to them. Charlie asks Allan about Dr. Monster again, but Allan still refuses to explain who he is, with Pim wishing the audience a happy Halloween.

A post-credits scene shows Mr. Boss and Satan arguing over fence-line property boundaries.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • Aaron Long, known for his series Sublo and Tangy Mustard, provided the rough animation for the scene of Charlie drunk at the wedding [1]. A key difference between the rough and final is Jombo moving his arms erratically while speaking.
  • This episode is a special Halloween episode, much like "A Silly Halloween Special" from Season One.
    • Both episodes are also the fourth episode of each season.
  • This episode and "The Magical Red Jewel (aka Tyler Gets Fired)" are the only episodes not featured in the Season 2 official trailer.
    • However, clips of these episodes are featured in a short promotional trailer uploaded to TikTok and Instagram.
  • Jombo's existence was previously alluded to in an interview released shortly before Season 2's premiere. He is erroneously referred to as "Zongo" by Zach Hadel during said interview and on press releases for Season 2.
  • Mr. Frog appears on the thumbnail of a video entitled "President Frog BEST MOMENTS II", possibly indicating Mr. Boss was unsuccessful with his assassination attempt.
  • Filia Diabulus appear to be based on classical depictions of succubi. Whereas modern succubi are considered to be conventionally attractive, earlier depictions show them to be hideous, with their victims being charmed by their sorcery rather than looks.
  • This is the only episode where one of the phones or tablets does not appear, However, in "Enchanted Forest", The phones only appear in the post-credit scene.
  • The demonology book Pim reads depicts Filia Diabulus seducing many powerful men from history such as Charlemagne, Napoleon Bonaparte and Franklin Roosevelt.
    • The text written in the book also seems to be the lyrics of 2000's love pop songs translated to latin[2]

Cultural references[]

  • The doll that belongs to Charlie's uncle bears a striking resemblance to Tara the Android from the music video I Feel Fantastic.
  • Daniel The Demonslayer, being played by Doug Walker (of Nostalgia Critic fame), references his iconic line " I remember it so you don't have to" in his video on how to kill the Filia Diabulus.
  • Brittney's jumpscare face-reveal may be a reference to the infamous Violin Girl scene from the Courage The Cowardly Dog episode "Courage In The Big Stinkin' City".
  • The person that Allan mentioned Dr. Monster is likely a reference to the character with the same name from LilDeuceDeuce.
  • Charlie's demon hunting outfit looks similar to Linkara, and may also be in reference to the vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing from the Dracula franchise .
  • The song Mr. Boss sings to his employees seems to be adapted from a song that former 2016 Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina sang to Ted Cruz's children during a speech she made during her brief tenure as Ted Cruz's vice-presidential running mate. [3]
